Welcome

Welcome to The Virtual Campus. Our public high school offers students an alternative to traditional scheduling and instructional strategies in an asynchronous setting. All courses offered are accredited and aligned to Rapid City Area School District Standards, South Dakota Standards, and National Standards and are taught by South Dakota Certified Teachers who have been trained to teach in an online setting.

 Getting a blank white screen?
If you get a blank white screen when you login to the course platform, or if you get a blank white screen when responding to threads, then chances are you have ad blocking software installed.  Some ad blocking programs will interpret code on the website as an advertisement and will keep the content from loading.  Some popular programs with ad blocking include
Norton Internet Security, Norton Personal Firewall, the Google search bar, the Yahoo search bar, ZoneAlarm Pro, as well as other software.  To disable ad blocking on your computer, please consult the documentation that came with your software, or contact your ISP.

AOL uses an "internal browser." Using the internal browser can sometimes cause sporadic problems with the online learning system. To prevent this, the Help Desk recommends that you use an "external browser." This is easy to do.

Connect to AOL, but do NOT "go to the web."
Minimize the AOL window.
Go to the "Start" menu of your computer, select "Programs", and select "Internet Explorer" or "Netscape." When you open up the browser, type the web address (or URL) of your online campus into the address bar and click the enter key on your keyboard. Once you are on your school's Homepage, login as usual.

Since you will not be using their browser, AOL will "forget" that you are there and will disconnect you after 45 minutes. To prevent this, you will need to remind AOL of your presence. Every half hour or so, go back to AOL and click on something, check your email, or check the weather (just so it senses you!).

All Virtual Campus students must successfully complete an online Student Orientation Course at no charge to the student. Students must complete the Orientation before they are given access to their course. If students feel that online learning is not for them, they may drop from the campus with no penalty. We will only refund payment when we are contacted before enrollment in actual courses has taken place.

eColege has two types of specifications: Recommended and Supported.

  • Recommended (R) = The preferred software & hardware configurations for greatest ease and access to all typical, but optional, features of eCourse and Campus Portal. A recommended system provided the best possible user experience, and is among the most heavily tested.
  • Supported (S) = The software has undergone at least some testing for compatibility with eCourse and Campus Portal, and we have good-faith belief that all features will function reasonably well.

Virtually,

The Virtual Campus
